Dames take on final home bout of season
The Deathbridge Derby Dames have had a challenging season dealing with 2 wins and 4 loses during their summer game schedule. However, they hope to turn that around when they face the East Side Wheelers of Indus on Saturday, August 10 at Adams Ice Centre, which is their last home bout of the season.
“This year has definitely been a tough road traveled,” says Melissa Belter, captain for Saturday’s game. “As we’ve been working through some challenges, we’ve had to make some changes as a team. We’ve really concentrated on upping our fitness level, as well as focusing on our teamwork this season.”
Prior to the game on Saturday, the Lethbridge Roller Derby Guild will be hosting a junior roller derby information session from 1–3 p.m. at the arena. Parents and children aged 6-17 who are curious about the sport or want to enroll are encouraged to attend. A junior gear swap and buy, as well as a junior derby demo will take place.
Doors open for Saturday’s game at 6 p.m. with first whistle at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance through www.lethbridgerollerderby.ca or available at Bert & Mac’s, Culture Craze, Drunken Sailor, Blue Print and Boarderline.
This all-ages, licensed event will also feature a vendor village, beer gardens and plenty of trackside seating for an up-close view of the game. This event is proudly sponsored by 94.1 CJOC, Rollergirl, Nerd Roller Skates, Wicked Skatewear, Bad Girlfriend Skates, Airtech and Lethbridge Vehicle Licensing and Registry.
After Saturday’s last home bout the Dames upcoming games will be away, facing the Cut Throat Car Hops in Calgary the following weekend and other away games to be announced. But the league plans on hosting another invitational at the Lethbridge Exhibition on Nov. 2.
