Lethbridge Roller Derby Guild
An 8+ open roller derby league. Home of the Deathbridge City Rollers and Windy City Wipeouts.
The Deathbridge Derby Dames are back from summer break and ready to kick off their fall season of roller derby with several games on their schedule.
Saturday, October 22, 2011 the Dames will go toe-stop to toe-stop with the Tar Sand Betties. These girls are traveling all the way from Fort McMurray to play in their first bout and to celebrate the occasion the Dames have decided this will be a Black-Eyed Affair. So feel free to dress for the occasion, you just never know who will be there that you may want to impress. The Dames will also have a few fresh faces that will be lacing up their skates for the home game.
“This is going to be a very exciting night where a couple of our new Dames will get to debut their skills on the track,” says Lindsey Skakum, AKA Dream Whip, the captain for the Oct. 22 bout.
Although the Dames may seem like they have been on a bit of a hiatus, rest assured these ladies have been hitting tracks in and around the prairies to ensure they have what it takes to please their hometown crowd.
“I think we have a lot to prove,” explains Dream Whip. “We’re starving to do it in front of our home crowd!”
While you’re at the Black-Eyed Affair, be sure to grab some tickets for the Movember Mowdown happening on November 12, 2011. This is a roller derby double header, featuring the first-ever men’s bout in Lethbridge, with the Glenmore Reservoir Dogs facing the Red Deer Dreadnaughts. This match will be followed by the Deathbridge Derby Dames going head-to-head against the B-52 Bellas of Calgary. A portion of the proceeds from the evening will be donated to the Lethbridge Jack Ady Cancer Centre so every ticket sale will make a difference in someone’s life that has been affected by cancer.
If you want to join the Dames on the road for a couple of their away games, be sure to check out Oct. 29 in Wetaskiwin where the ladies will leave sweat, blood and tears on the track when they play the Missfits of Mayhem of the Central Alberta Roller Derby Association. It’s going to be a knock-down, drag-out fight for the win.
To wind up 2011, the Dames will be looking for revenge from their loss a year ago to the Gas City Rollers in Medicine Hat on Dec. 3.
Tickets for home games are available in advance from Steel Sass or your favourite derby girl. For more information, please visit our events page or email us at skate@lethbridgerollerderby.ca.
