Lethbridge Roller Derby Guild
An 8+ open roller derby league. Home of the Deathbridge City Rollers and Windy City Wipeouts.
October 13, 2010
Get ready for fast-paced roller derby action on Oct. 23 when the Deathbridge Derby Dames host the Missfits of Mayhem in their debut home game.
What started as a Facebook group in the fall of 2009, the Deathbridge Derby Dames have grown from a small group of women who have never strapped on a pair of roller skates, to a fully-functioning, self-run league. Working under the Lethbridge Roller Derby Guild, these women have worked hard to fund raise, find practice and bout venues and build their membership using the same grit and determination they bring to the track every practice.
“We’re excited to finally bring a game to Lethbridge and we’re even more excited to play together as a full team for the first time on our home turf,” says Guild president Heather Zarichney, aka Half Pint Havoc.
The Dames will be playing The Missfits of Mayhem, the travel team from the Central Alberta Roller Derby Association (CARDA). Just over a year old themselves, the Dames are excited to host a worthy competitor.
Dame coach Shannon Dooley, aka SHANANIGANS, says even though they’re the less experienced team, the Dames will be ready for the challenge.
“We’ve been practicing hard all through summer, building our team and working strategy. I’m confident we’ll give the Missfits a run for their money,” says Dooley.
The Deathbridge Derby Dames will be following up their debut home game with a bout in Medicine Hat on November 27. The Dames will be playing the Gas City Rollers at 6 p.m. followed by the Red Deer Belladonna’s versus the Regina Pile O’ Bones Derby Club at 7:45 p.m.
